PROFESSIONAL DOG TRAINER JASON DOMMEYER KEYS IN ON A “FINESSE” APPROACH TO TRAINING
Keeping control over your dog at all times is a critical element to dog training, especially with the sporting breeds when in the field. Electronic collars and leashes are proven methods, but professional dog trainer Jason Dommeyer of Cannon River Kennels said dog owners are interested in other methods.
The newest generation of remote collars emit a vibration rather than a shock and many collars on the market today have a tone or paging mode. “It takes longer to train your dog with those methods, but the trend now days is for that style of finesse training and I’d like to demonstrate to people how it works and how effective it can be,” Dommeyer said.
A lifetime of hunting experience from Canada to South America and over a decade of dog training gives Dommeyer a high level of expertise as a hunter and trainer. He has trained dogs for premier pheasant hunting lodges in South Dakota and duck hunting lodges in Mississippi and Mexico.
Dommeyer has been giving seminars at Game Fair for many years now but this is the first time his seminars will last an hour. “I’m excited to have the extra time to do more demonstrations with dogs and be able to answer more questions from the audience,” he said. Dommeyer will have a variety of dogs on hand to demonstrate his cueing method and its effectiveness
