Ron Schara

RETURNS AS MC FOR GAME FAIR 2012

As a journalist, Ron Schara has been sharing the great outdoor experience with his readers for nearly three decades. Seeing through the eyes and lives of others, his material has captured the attention of tens of thousands of fresh air enthusiasts by putting them as close to the subject's setting as a reader or viewer can be. Over the years, as his newspaper and television popularity has grown, Ron's personality has become more a part of the fabric of the Midwest's outdoor community.

Ron's soft spoken but direct delivery, and appealing on-camera image, have made him a popular resource as an all-purpose, outdoor/naturalist commentator for many Minnesota radio and television stations. This includes his own program, Minnesota Bound which is seen on Saturdays at 6:30 p.m. & and Sunday nights at 10:30 PM on KARE 11 TV/NBC. Ron's national program, "Backroads with Ron & Raven", airs on ESPN2 and has consistently been one of the highest rated shows on the outdoor block. Ron's programs are seen on national cable outlets THE OUTDOOR CHANNEL; it is also seen on KTTC-TV/NBC in Rochester, MN.; & on KVLY-TV/NBC in Fargo, N.D. and on KSFY-TV/ABC in Sioux Falls,S.D. His Minnesota Outdoors radio program can be heard on WCCO-AM radio on Saturday mornings. Ron's television programs have won a total of four Emmy's to date.

His ever rising popularity hasn't been achieved by having his personality dominate the story. Rather, Ron prides himself in letting the story happen through those who live it and simply allow himself to be the guide to discovery. He's there to share a story, or to inform on a cause or controversy. Deep in the wilderness on the shore of an ancient glacial trout lake or wading the waters of an environmentally threatened inner city wildlife pond, Ron's knowledge and understanding of our natural surroundings is more than just a journalist's assignment. He grew up loving the outdoors in northeast Iowa's rugged bluff country. He graduated with degrees in journalism and fish/wildlife biology and he has never veered from his ambition. Whether writing a newspaper story, talking with his radio and television audience, or appearing before a live audience, Ron Schara likes to use colorful storytelling to create a story for his audience.

TOM KNAPP

EXHIBITION SHOOTER AND THREE-TIME WORLD RECORD HOLDER TOM KNAPP ‘THE SHOOTING STAR’ WILL BE PUTTING ON SHOWS DAILY

There are many fine exhibition shooters in the world today but perhaps the greatest one of modern times is Tom Knapp with CZ-USA and Federal Premium Ammunition. Knapp holds three distinctive world records in ‘Freestyle Target Shooting’ or ‘Exhibition Shooting’ including shooting ten clay targets in the air in an unbelievable 2.2 seconds flat.

In his show, which is as entertaining as it is amazing, he will fire over 200 rounds at a wide variety of targets. The finale to his show will feature Knapp shooting seven clay targets out of the air at one time and, if the weather is cooperating, an attempt at matching his first world record of nine targets at once.

Like many other exhibition shooters today, Knapp was inspired by the legendary Herb Parsons who many consider to be the greatest exhibition shooter in history. “He started a tradition that today’s exhibition shooters like myself take great pride in carrying forward,” he said. Knapp’s show also includes audience participation and six kids will be called to throw 30 eggs into the air as Knapp prepares a CZ-USA omelet.

*Bring your gun in a case, ONLY Trap Load Shells will be permitted at the entrance. Shells are available at Game Fair's Booth.

LORAL I DELANEY

LORAL I DELANEY, WINNER OF AN UNPRECENTED FOUR WORLD FLYER CHAMPIONSHIP TITLES, PROVIDES LADIES SHOOTING INSTRUCTION

Since the first year of Game Fair, Loral I Delaney has helped improve the shooting abilities for thousands of men, women and children at Game Fair. A member of the Trapshooting Hall of Fame, Loral I is one of the most decorated shooters in the world. She’s also a top notch shooting instructor. Her daily seminar titled “Ladies Shooting Instruction” centers around shotgun shooting and being comfortable around guns.

Loral I has accumulated numerous National and International shooting honors including her most recent title in the World Flyer Championships in Guadalajara, Mexico. It’s not the first time she’s won this intense, international competition—in fact, it’s her fourth time! Loral I is the first American to win this coveted championship four times.

“I really enjoy working with women who have never shot before and with women who are looking to improve their technique,” she said. Loral I encourages women who have a shotgun to bring it to Game Fair (cased, of course) for some individual assistance and instruction. “We’ll work on their comfort zone first because it’s impossible to shoot well if you are not comfortable handling the gun—then I’ll show them how to use their eyes.”’

FRANK TAYLOR

BE AMAZED BY THE SLEEK BIRDS OF PREY AND ENTERTAINED BY MASTER FALCONER FRANK TAYLOR

Falconry is no longer reserved for kings and nobles but that doesn’t make it any easier. Working with a wild bird of prey to become your partner in the field takes a tremendous amount of work and patience. Master Falconer Frank Taylor knows what it takes to get that job done. Taylor is the past Curator of Birds for The Raptor Center at the University of Minnesota. He is also one of the leading authorities on raptors.

Many great birds of prey will be displayed in the Falconry tent and the area immediately behind the tent during all six days of Game Fair. Taylor is an expert with a wide variety of hawks, falcons and eagles. Aiding Taylor on this sport of medieval kings will be members of the Minnesota Falconers Association. It’s an organization he helped found in 1973 to promote high standards in falconry and conduct conservation projects for hawks.
